The event took place for the seventh time in Llandrindod Wells, after the 15th (1933), 19th (1937), 20th (1938), 24th (1949), 25th (1950) and 29th International Six-Day Tour ( 1954) were held here.

330 drivers from 17 FIM motorsport associations were registered for the competition. A total of 14 drivers were registered from the GDR: one team for the World Trophy (6 drivers), one team for the silver vase (4 drivers) and 4 individual drivers.
