36th international six-day trip
The 36th International Six-Day Ride was an off-road motorcycle competition that took place from October 2 to 7, 1961 in Llandrindod Wells, Wales, and the surrounding area. The FRG national team won the World Trophy for the third time. The silver vase went to Czechoslovakia for the ninth time.

The event took place for the seventh time in Llandrindod Wells, after the 15th (1933), 19th (1937), 20th (1938), 24th (1949), 25th (1950) and 29th International Six-Day Tour ( 1954) were held here.
330 drivers from 17 FIM motorsport associations were registered for the competition. A total of 14 drivers were registered from the GDR: one team for the World Trophy (6 drivers), one team for the silver vase (4 drivers) and 4 individual drivers. Due to the Düsseldorf resolutions in force since 1961 , GDR athletes were not allowed to take part in the event. - The Allied Travel Office (which was responsible for issuing temporary travel documents for GDR citizens traveling to states that did not recognize the GDR under international law) did not issue any entry permit to the United Kingdom.
Teams from eight nations competed for the World Trophy. In addition, 16 silver vase, 26 factory and 23 club teams were at the start.
The FRG took part in the World Trophy as well as with two silver vase teams. Austria started with a World Trophy, Switzerland with a silver vase team. In addition, seven German club teams took part.
1 day
Of the 300 registered drivers, 271 took up the competition.
The first stage of the day led over 215 mi (346 km ) and included an acceleration and a braking test at special stages .
After the first day of driving, the team from Germany led the World Trophy ahead of Italy and Czechoslovakia. The Austrian team was in 5th place.
In the silver vase ranking, the A-team from Germany was ahead of Italy and the B-team from Czechoslovakia. The FRG B team came in 7th, the Swiss team 14th.
15 drivers dropped out of the competition.
2 day
On the second day, 280.5 mi (451 km) as well as an off-road and a mountain test had to be completed.
The World Trophy led the FRG team ahead of Italy and Sweden. The Austrian team was still in 6th place.
In the silver vase classification, the B-team from Germany led ahead of Italy and the B-team from Czechoslovakia. The FRG A team came in 7th, the Swiss team 13th.
17 drivers were eliminated from the competition.
3rd day
On the third day the route from the previous day was driven in the opposite direction. A mountain and an off-road test had to be completed at special tests.
In the World Trophy, the FRG team continued ahead of Sweden and Czechoslovakia. The Austrian team took 5th place.
The B-team of the FRG led the silver vase ranking ahead of the B- and A-teams of Czechoslovakia. The FRG A team was 10th, the Swiss team 11th.
21 drivers dropped out of the competition.
4th day
The fourth day's stage was 230 mi (370 km) long. One of the two special tests was an off-road test.
At the end of the fourth day of driving, the FRG team continued to lead ahead of Czechoslovakia and Italy in the World Trophy. The Austrian team improved to 4th place.
In the silver vase standings, the B team led ahead of the A team of Czechoslovakia and the B team of Great Britain. The A-team of the FRG finished 8th. Herbert Schek was eliminated from the B-team of the FRG, which had been leading up to that point , and the team took 10th place. The Swiss team took 11th place. In the latter, R. Wyss was eliminated.
16 drivers dropped out of the competition.
5th day
The route of the previous day had to be driven in the opposite direction. The special tests were a combined acceleration and braking test as well as a mountain test.
The intermediate results after the fifth day of driving: In the World Trophy, the FRG team continued ahead of Czechoslovakia and Italy. The Austrian team was in 4th place.
In the silver vase standings, the B team continued to lead ahead of the A team from Czechoslovakia and the B team from Great Britain. The A and B teams of the FRG were in 7th and 9th place respectively. The Swiss team took 11th place.
13 drivers dropped out of the competition.
6th day
On the last day a short 82 mi (132 km) stage was ridden. The final race (speed test) as the last special stage took place at Shobdon Airfield. The circuit set up there had a length of 2.8 kilometers. Depending on the class, the drivers had to complete a certain number of laps (see table) within an hour.
