The Life Science North cluster
The cluster was founded in 2003 to promote cooperation between business, science and politics in the metropolitan region of Hamburg and northern Germany . Norgenta GmbH was later renamed Life Science Nord Management GmbH. Life Science Nord e. V. strengthens the exchange of knowledge and represents the interests of 260 active association members of the life science industry in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein on the supervisory board of the GmbH.
The supervisory board consists of alternating representatives from politics, business and research institutions. The Ministry for Economy, Transport and Innovation (BWVI), the Ministry for Economy, Transport, Labor, Technology and Tourism of the State of Schleswig-Holstein (MWVATT) and the Association Life Science Nord e. V.
The abstract concept of an economic cluster and the specific activities can be illustrated using a few examples. Life Science Nord's tasks include:
- Advice and networking
- Advice on funding programs and support with funding applications
- Support of innovative start- ups , start-up companies and establishment of an innovation center
- Initiation and implementation of strategic projects
- Supports in the search for suitable settlement areas or service providers
- Promotion of translational medicine , i.e. bringing preclinical research closer to clinical development (from the laboratory to the patient's bed).
- Organization of delegation trips with representatives from science, business and politics
- Exchange with other clusters and regions in Europe, the USA, Japan and China
An important element is the special job exchange , which provides current vacancies and internships in companies and academic institutions from the biotechnology , pharmacy , medicine and medical technology industries in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein in order to counter the shortage of skilled workers . In addition to numerous regional working groups, training courses and events, Life Science Nord organizes a joint stand for North German companies at international trade fairs such as Arab Health in Dubai or Bio Europe.
In the COVID-19 pandemic , for example, mediation was made between the procurement offices of the federal states and companies that offer system-relevant products and services to combat SARS-CoV-2 or that companies ' need for support was passed on to politicians. For bottlenecks in the supply chain for material and personnel resources, cross-cluster collaborations and deliveries were implemented at short notice.
