Fritz Witzel (born August 9, 1932 ) is a German enduro athlete .

Career

Fritz Witzel from Bergrheinfeld near Schweinfurt is one of the most successful German motorcycle off-road drivers of the post-war period. The automotive technician was part of the Fichtel & Sachs testing department from 1950 to 1983 . For 17 of these 33 years he was a test driver. During this time Fritz Witzel took part in countless national and international off-road sport events and won a total of 214 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 9 bronze medals.

From 1953 to 1957 he achieved 45 gold medals as a works driver for the Nuremberg company Mars on the Mars Stella 175 S / DS , which was equipped with a 175 cc engine from Sachs. In the following years, from 1957 to 1975 he won 125 times as a Hercules factory driver with a 175 cm³ machine, from 1972 to 1977 also on a competition Hercules W-2000 with the well-known 300 cm³ rotary engine , which up to in 1977 in Nuremberg . He achieved another 44 victories on a 350 cc competition machine from Maico .

In 1962 the ADAC awarded him the golden ADAC sports badge with diamonds . At the international six-day race , Fritz Witzel won nine gold, two silver and one bronze medals. At the peak of his career in 1966, he won the "Golden Trial Medal" within the German cross-country championship on a 250 cm³ Maico and then he was runner-up five times with several class wins.
