Albert Sigismund Jaspis (born February 15, 1809 in Nossen ( Saxony ), † December 20, 1885 in Stettin ) was a Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of Pomerania .

Life

Albert Sigismund Jaspis was born as the son of the court director and Jurispracticus Gotthelf Sigismund Jaspis and his wife Johanna Auguste Günther. He attended the Freiberg grammar school and from 1827 studied theology at the University of Leipzig . In the years 1831 and 1832 he completed the theological exams before the Saxon Royal Consistory and also acquired the philosophical master's degree.

From 1832 to 1835 he worked as a catechist and afternoon preacher at the Peterskirche in Leipzig , before he was appointed pastor in Lugau in 1835 by the patron Prince Otto Viktor von Schönburg-Waldenburg . Here he married Amalie Jaspis, the daughter of the late Püchau pastor, on August 3, 1835.

In 1838 he was again appointed by the Princely Schönburg patronage to a deacon office in Lichtenstein and at the same time as pastor of Rödlitz .

In 1845 Jaspis took over the third parish of the Lutheran parish in Elberfeld , which he held for ten years. Then followed - on the recommendation of General Superintendent Johann Friedrich Möller to Minister of Education von Raumer - the call of General Superintendent of Pomerania in Stettin to succeed Carl Ritschl . He held this office for thirty years until his death at the age of 77. Heinrich Poetter was his successor .
