In 1886 Petrich became chief preacher at St. Stephen's Church in Gartz (Oder) , at the same time he was superintendent and district school inspector. Petrich received an honorary doctorate from the theological faculty of the University of Greifswald .

After his wife's death in 1892, he married her sister Cecilie von Bonin († 1909). On October 1, 1915, he retired and moved to Berlin-Halensee.
