The Kapern village church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Kapern , a district of the town of Schnackenburg in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . It was built in the 19th century in neo-Romanesque style.

Location and history

The church is located in a south-westerly direction on the outskirts of Kapern and is surrounded by the cemetery, on which there are two memorials for those who died from the two world wars. The church was built in 1856 by Conrad Wilhelm Hase as a three-nave basilica in neo-Romanesque style and consecrated in 1860. From 1976 the community belonged to the parish Schnackenburg , today part of the parish on Elbe and Seege in the parish of Lüchow-Dannenberg of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

architecture

The church has been preserved in its original state since it was built. It is a massive brick building . In recent years the building has been restored and protected against moisture damage. The masonry has been revised, the historical windows have been restored and currently (2019) the interior painting is being returned to its original color.

Furnishing

The church's furnishings include murals by Karl Andreä from Dresden from 1870, a baptismal font based on a medieval architectural style and an ornamental Art Nouveau painting from 1905. The pneumatic organ by the organ builder Furtwängler & Hammer dates from 1905.
