Klaus Halser

Klaus Halser (born February 19, 1942 in Eppendorf ) is a former German motor sportsman who competed for the GDR . In the 1960s and 1970s he achieved numerous international successes in enduro sports (motorcycle off-road driving) and was GDR champion several times.
Career
Klaus Halser is the son of off-road motorcycle rider Werner Halser , who was part of the MZ motorcycle factory in Zschopau in the 1950s and became a GDR champion in 1956. Klaus Halser took part in the race around Zschopau for the first time at the age of 17 in 1959 and was East German champion in the 125 cm³ displacement class in the same year . In 1960 and 1962 to 1965 he repeated this success.
In 1962 he started in the 125 cc class for the first time in foreign competitions and won the International Austrian Alpine Tour and the Tatra Tour in Zakopane ( Poland ). In 1963 he took part for the first time with the GDR team in the International Six Days (4th place) - at that time the unofficial world championship.
In 1966 he switched to the 175 cm³ class. In this he won the World Trophy with the GDR at the 42nd International Six-Day Race in 1967. For this victory, the team was voted GDR Sportsman of the Year .
From 1971 he started in the 250 cm³ class. By 1974 Klaus Halser took part in the six-day race a total of twelve times and achieved two wins (1967, 1969 ), three second places ( 1964 , 1966 , 1972 ) and one third place ( 1971 ) with the Silbervase and Trophy teams .
At the European Cup in 1967, the forerunner of the European Championship , he came second, at the European Championships in 1968, 1970 and 1972 he was third. Klaus Halser started for ASK Vorwärts Potsdam , his coach was Werner Rosenbrock . In 1974 he ended his sports career.
