European Enduro Championship
The European Enduro Championship was introduced in 1968 by the FIM and until 1989 it was the most important individual championship in enduro sport .
The European Championship was born out of the desire to combine the two and three-day events (e.g. “Three-day trip from Isny” or “Valli Bergamasche”) in one series in addition to the international six -day trip. After a test in 1967 as the European Cup, the run around Zschopau in the Saxon city of Zschopau was held as the first European championship run in early May 1968 .
From 1990 the European Championship was replaced by the Enduro World Championship . However, since there was still a need for a championship that should only take place in Europe, the European championship was reintroduced in 1992. Marketing, however, turned out to be difficult.
Another attempt was made from 2001 under the direction of the European motorcycle association UEM (since 2013 FIM Europe). This time, the focus is on promoting young talent and evaluating the drivers in the juniors, seniors, veterans and women classes. The aim is to give drivers international experience and introduce them to the demands of the world championship. Juniors are riders under the age of 25 and veteran riders born before 1964. From 2005, the performance classes were adapted to those of the world championship.
