Franco Gualdi

Franco Gualdi (born April 1, 1957 ) is an Italian enduro athlete . In his active career he was a three -time European Enduro Champion and a three-time member of the victorious trophy team at the international six-day race . Today he is the manager of the Italian Enduro team and a member of the Enduro Commission at the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme .

Life

Franco Gualdi started motorsport in 1971. In 1975 he won with a DKW at the heavy Italian enduro event Valli Bergamasche in the class up to 175 cm³. In 1977 he won the Italian Enduro Championship in this class. At the international six-day trip in Czechoslovakia he was class winner. In 1978 he defended his national championship title. He also won the Enduro European Championship in the class up to 175 cm³ on a Hercules . The following year Gualdi switched to SWM and won the Italian championship and the European championship in the class up to 250 cm³. At the international six-day race in Neunkirchen he was a member of the victorious Italian trophy team. He also won a class in the Valli Bergamasche. In the 1980 season he moved to the class up to 125 cm³ and he finished second in the national championship. In 1981 he returned to the 250 cc class and was again runner-up in the Italian championship. With the Italian national team he won the trophy at the international six-day race on Elba .

In 1984 Franco Gualdi won a class win in the Valli Bergamasche with a 250 m³ Kram-It . In 1985 he achieved second place in the class up to 500 cm³ at the Italian Enduro Championship. In 1986 he was class winner in the international six-day race in Italy in the class up to 125 cm³. In 1988 Gualdi became Italian champion with a Cagiva in the class up to 350 cc four-stroke. He also finished sixth overall at the Dakar Rally . In 1989 he was able to defend his national championship title. At the international six-day race in Walldürn , he won the trophy with the national team. In 1990, at the end of his career, he was again Italian champion in the class up to 350 cm³ four-stroke on a Husqvarna .

After the end of his active career, he became the manager of the Italian national enduro team and sporting director of the “Fiamme Oro”, the sports group of the Polizia di Stato . Under his leadership he won trophies at the international six-day race in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997 and 2000 as well as the Junior Trophy in 1997.

2003 was appointed Knight of the Italian Republic . Since 2005 he has been on the board of the Italian motorcycle sport association FMI and is responsible for enduro sport. At the same time he is on the Enduro Commission of the FIM motorcycle world association .
