Bernhard Timm

Bernhard Jonn Christian Timm (born September 29, 1909 in Pinneberg ; † January 9, 1992 in Heidelberg ) was a German manager . From 1965 to 1974 he was Chairman of the Board of Management of BASF AG . His merit lies in making BASF a major international corporation.

Life

Bernhard Jonn Christian Timm was the son of a grain merchant. After attending the reform high school in Altona , Timm initially wanted to study mathematics , but then switched to physics , chemistry and astronomy at the University of Heidelberg after the first semester . He was a member of the Normannia zu Heidelberg fraternity and received his doctorate in 1934 as a physicist. In 1936 he became a research assistant in the ammonia laboratory of BASF (Badische Anilin- & Sodafabrik AG) in Ludwigshafen, which belongs to IG Farben .

After the end of the war, Timm was an interpreter and employee of Carl Wurster , who became head of BASF, which was spun off from the IG Farben complex in 1952. In 1950 he became director, from 1965 general director and chairman of the board. Under Timm, the expansion into a global group began. He was Chairman of the Board of Management of BASF AG from 1965 to 1974 and Chairman of the Supervisory Board from 1974 to 1983.
