Augusto Taiocchi

Augusto Taiocchi (born August 12, 1950 in Ponteranica ; † June 3, 2010 ) was an Italian enduro athlete . He was twice European champion and several times a member of the victorious Italian trophy team at the international six-day race .

Career

Augusto Taiocchi began active motorsport in 1967. He drove for the Fiamme Oro motor sport club of the Italian police . He won his first title in 1968 on a Morini with 125 cc. He later switched to a 125 cc Puch and was successful in the Italian Enduro Championship.

In 1971 he was class winner in the Italian Enduro Championship on a KTM . He remained loyal to this brand until the end of his career. Two more class wins followed in 1973 and 1974.

In 1976 he was second in the Enduro European Championship in the class up to 250 cm³. In the Italian championship he won the class classification. The following year he was third in the 500 cc class in the EM. In 1978 he switched to the class up to 350 cm³ and came third again.

In 1979 Taiocchi won the overall ranking in the Italian championship with a 500 cc KTM. In the Enduro European Championship he became European champion this year with a 350 cm³ machine. With the Italian national team he won the trophy at the international six-day race in Neunkirchen .

In the following year he was able to win the European championship in the 500 cm³ class. With the national team, he defended the trophy victory in the international six-day race in Brioude , France. In the Italian championship he was class winner.

Also in 1981 he was a member of the successful trophy team at the Six Days on the Italian island of Elba . In the years 1982 to 1984 he won the class classification of the Italian Enduro Championship.

He won the Italian off-road trip Valli Bergamasche in 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980 and 1982.

Even after his time as a competitive athlete, he was active in classic enduro racing with historic motorcycles and won the overall championship from 1994 to 2000.

Augusto Taiocchi died on June 3, 2010 after a long illness.
