Ponteranica is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6812 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy . It borders directly on the provincial capital Bergamo . Strada Statale 470 runs through the municipality.
Ponteranica lies on the Maresena , a small elevation (formerly Monte Torsillio ). The area, which is mainly forested with chestnut trees, is part of the Parco dei Colli di Bergamo . The Morla river has its source in the municipality .
Ponteranica was already known as a Lombard settlement ( Poltraniga ).
A building of greater importance is the Church of Saints Vincent and Alexander, built in the 15th century. It contains paintings by the artist Lorenzo Lotto from 1525/27.
