Villongo is a municipality in the province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy with 8,168 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Valcalepio, 60 km northeast of Milan and 20 km east of Bergamo .

geography

The village consists of the fractions San Filastro and Sant'Alessandro who were united in 1927 to the municipality of Villongo. The municipality belongs to the Comunità montana Monte Bronzone e del Basso Sebino.

history

The villages of Villongo San Filastro and Villongo Sant'Alessandro were inhabited as early as the Middle Ages, as evidenced by excavations in the 19th century. Both localities united in 1927 and formed what is now the municipality of Villongo.
