Casazza is a municipality in the province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy with 3970 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Casazza is located 20 km northeast of the provincial capital Bergamo and 70 km northeast of the metropolis of Milan.

The neighboring municipalities are Albino , Bianzano , Gaverina Terme , Grone , Monasterolo del Castello , Spinone al Lago and Vigano San Martino .

history

Documents from the ninth century show the existence of the Mologno Church, which had jurisdiction over Val Cavallina.

The name of the place name Mologno, on a hilly terrain, represents the origins of the municipality. It was only through the merger of the municipalities of Mologno and Molini di Colognola in 1927 that the municipality of Casazza emerged in its current form. The two places merged as early as 1797, but this only lasted a few decades.

Attractions

There are numerous legacies from the Middle Ages in Casazza. So it says u. a. the Castello dei Suardi and the adjacent tower.

The parish church in honor of San Lorenzo was built around 1700 on the ruins of a former cult site, which still bears the name of San Lorenzo Vecchio . Inside the church you can also see numerous works by local artists.
