Ponte San Pietro is a municipality in the northern Italian province of Bergamo in Lombardy . The city is located about 40 km northeast of Milan and about 8 km west of Bergamo .
Ponte San Pietro is conceptually the bridge of Saint Peter. The Brembo River is "crossed" here . The local basilica from the year 881 is dedicated to Peter ( "Basilica Sancti Petri sita ad pontem Brembi" , Latin: Basilica of St. Peter located on the bridge over the Brembo).
A fortress was built here in the 13th century by Manfredino De 'Melioratis; this was razed in the 18th century.
