school

About 160 teachers and non-pedagogical staff work in laboratories, learning offices, workshops and general classrooms at the Upper School Center for Information and Medical Technology. The OSZ IMT has around 3000 students, with around 2000 in the house every day. The OSZ IMT is Berlin's largest school for information technology and Germany's largest school for medical technology. 1000 computers and 30 laboratories are available to schoolchildren and students. The OSZ IMT was founded in 2001 and inaugurated in 2006. It emerged from the Upper School Center for Precision Work and Device Technology (OSZ FuG) and the IT department at the Upper School Center for Communication, Information and Media Technology (OSZ KIM).

Courses

The largest department at the OSZ IMT is the vocational school for trainees in the dual IT professions: IT system electronics technician , IT specialist in system integration and application development as well as mathematical-technical software developers . In the vocational training course with a high school diploma , which is unique in Germany , the trainees obtain not only the IT qualification but also the general university entrance qualification.

In the medical technical vocational school, the OSZ IMT trains opticians, surgical mechanics and tool mechanics specializing in instrument technology as well as orthopedic mechanics and bandagists.

In the vocational school, the three-year training as an IT assistant (formerly: PC assistant ) is closely related to training in the dual IT professions. It is u. a. the acquisition of the certificate "qualified electrician for specified activities" is possible. In the vocational school, assistants for technical editing and assistants for medical device technology, who are closely geared to the needs of medical technology companies and hospitals in Berlin and Brandenburg, are trained. In addition to the professional qualification, these three-year courses also lead to the acquisition of the advanced technical college entrance qualification.

In addition, the students in the vocational school can achieve the dual qualification vocational qualification and intermediate school leaving certificate (MSA, Mittlere Reife) in two-year courses. Training here is based on IT assistants, IT equipment consultants and installers, and the technical system planner ( technical draftsman ) based on the dual training occupation . In a three-and-a-half-year learning location cooperation, electronics technicians for devices and systems with a focus on medical technology are finally trained, whereby the IHK degree and the technical college entrance qualification can be acquired.

In addition to the two professional profiles of information technology and medical technology , the professions of precision optician , goldsmith , engraver , technical product designer , technical system planner , technical draftsman and watchmaker are trained at the OSZ IMT .

The technical college and vocational college courses lead to the technical college entrance qualification and the technical diploma. Both courses concentrate on the requirements of information and metal technology. In the upper level of the vocational high school, information technology and medical technology form the professional profiles. Here, the general university entrance qualification can be acquired in three years (no Turbo Abitur).

What is unique at an upper level center is the further qualification of students who have completed vocational training and professional experience to become state-certified technicians specializing in medical technology. There is also the possibility of acquiring the technical college entrance qualification in the technical college.

The OSZ IMT is the largest local Cisco academy in Germany, IT tech examination center, Oracle , Microsoft and Linux academy. The IT specialist system integration course with additional qualifications received the Hermann Schmidt Prize in 2009 for its outstanding concept of combining the vocational training of IT specialists in system integration with the acquisition of additional MINT qualifications.

European education

Every year, the OSZ IMT sends around 150 vocational school students and trainees to eight to ten-week internships in other European countries (including Spain, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Finland) in close cooperation with its operational partners with funding from the Leonardo da Vinci program , France, Turkey). In addition, the OSZ IMT maintains a school partnership with the IES Les Corts, cooperates with the IES La Guineueta in Barcelona and participates in Comenius projects. For its efforts to increase mobility in initial vocational training, it was awarded the mobility certificate from the national agency at BIBB in 2010.
