The Roman Catholic Diocese of Barrancabermeja ( lat. : Dioecesis Barrancabermeiensis , span. : Diócesis de Barrancabermeja ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Barrancabermeja .
history
Pope Pius XI founded the territorial prelature Río Magdalena with the Apostolic Constitution Dominici gregis regiminis on April 2, 1928 from ceding territories of the dioceses Nueva Pamplona , Santa Marta and Socorro y San Gil . On April 18, 1950, she was raised to the Apostolic Vicariate with the Apostolic Constitution Apostolicis sub plumbo .
It lost part of its territory on October 26, 1962 to the Ocaña diocese . It was raised to the diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Divina Christi Verba and it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Nueva Pamplona as a suffragan diocese.
It became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Bucaramanga on December 14, 1974. Another piece of land it lost on March 29, 1984 to the diocese of La Dorada-Guaduas .
