Ovidio Giraldo Velásquez
Ovidio Giraldo Velásquez (born January 27, 1963 in Montebonito , Departamento de Caldas ) is a Colombian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Barrancabermeja .
Life
Ovidio Giraldo Velásquez studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Seminary in Manizales . On February 18, 1989 he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of La Dorada-Guaduas .
After being ordained a priest, Ovidio Giraldo Velásquez first worked as parish vicar in the parishes of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores and San Antonio , before becoming parish priest in the parish of San José Obrero in 1992 . In the same year Giraldo Velásquez was sent to Rome for further studies , where he obtained a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1994 . After returning to his homeland, Ovidio Giraldo Velásquez worked from 1994 to 2000 as a trainer at the Small Seminary Cristo Buen Pastor . In 2001 he became pastor of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen cathedral in La Dorada and spiritual at the Minor Seminary Cristo Buen Pastor . Giraldo Velásquez was also the delegate for social pastoral care from 2006 to 2009 . From 2009 to 2013 he was responsible for pastoral care in the diocese of La Dorada-Guaduas. In 2013 Ovidio Giraldo Velásquez became National Director of the Network for the New Evangelization .
On May 29, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Barrancabermeja. The Bishop of Pereira , Rigoberto Corredor Bermúdez , gave him on 22 July of the same year in the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Pobreza in Pereira , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the bishop of La Dorada-Guaduas, Hency Martínez Vargas , and the auxiliary bishop in Pereira, Luis Albeiro Cortés Rendón . The inauguration took place on August 8, 2020.
