La Dorada is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Caldas in Colombia which, at the Magdalena River is located.

geography

La Dorada is located on the left bank of the Río Magdalena in the Magdalena Caldense sub-region in the Departamento de Caldas . The annual average temperature is 28 ° C. La Dorada is 168 km east of Manizales . The municipality borders in the north Sonsón and Puerto Triunfo in Antioquia , in the east Puerto Boyacá in Boyacá , Guaduas and Puerto Salgar in Cundinamarca , in the south Honda in Tolima and in the west Norcasia and Victoria in Caldas .

history

The history of La Dorada is closely related to the construction of the railway between Honda and Yeguas. Settlement of the area of today's city began in 1888, when the railroad entered the area. The city received the status of a municipality in 1923.

economy

The main industry in La Dorada is cattle production . Agriculture , gold mining , trade and fishing also play a role. The industry is limited to small and medium-sized companies .

religion

Together with Guaduas , La Dorada is the seat of the diocese of La Dorada-Guaduas . La Dorada Cathedral is dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel .
