Guaduas , colonial name Villa de San Miguel de Guaduas is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia . Together with La Dorada , Guaduas is the seat of the diocese of La Dorada-Guaduas .

Guaduas is located in the northwest of Cundinamarca, in the province of Bajo Magdalena , about 114 km from Bogotá at an altitude of 992 m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 23.5 ° C. The place is located in a valley on the west side of the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes . The municipality borders in the north on Puerto Salgar and Caparrapí , in the east on Caparrapí, Útica , Quebradanegra and Villeta , in the south on Vianí and Chaguaní and in the west separated by the Río Magdalena on La Dorada in the Departamento de Caldas and on Honda and Armero in the Departamento del Tolima .

history

Guaduas was founded in 1572 by Andrés Díaz Venero de Leyva on the site of an indigenous village. Two more foundations followed in 1610 and 1644 by the monk Tomás de Morales and Francisco Pérez Guzmán, the first mayor of Guaduas. The historic center of Guaduas was declared a national monument in 1959.
