Junín is a municipality ( municipio ) in the Colombian department of Cundinamarca . Part of the Chingaza Natural Park is located on the territory of the municipality .

geography

Junín is located in the southeast of Cundinamarca in the province of Guavío at an altitude of about 2300 meters on the east side of the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes, 103 km from Bogotá. The average temperature is 16 ° C. The municipality is bordered to the north by Guacheta and Guatavita , on the east by Gama and Gachala , to the south Fómeque and to the west of La Calera and Guasca .

history

Before the arrival of the Spaniards, the indigenous village of Chipazaque existed on the site of today's Junín . In the field lived Indigenous of Chíos , to the group of Chibchas belonged. Junín was founded by the Spaniards in 1550 under the name Nuestra Señora de la Concepción de Chipazaque . In 1861 Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera moved the main town to its current location and gave it the name Junín.
