Tocancipá is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia , which belongs to the metropolitan region of Bogotá . Tocancipá is known for the motor racing circuit Autódromo Internacional de Tocancipá and the amusement park Parque Jaime Duque .

Tocancipá is located in Cundinamarca , in the province of Sabana Centro , about 47 km from Bogotá at an altitude of 2605  m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 16 ° C. The municipality borders Gachancipá and Zipaquirá to the north, Cajicá and Zipaquirá to the west, Gachancipá and Guatavita to the east and Guasca and Sopó to the south .

history

Tocancipá was officially founded in 1593 by Miguel de Ibarra for the Spaniards in order to better control the indigenous people living in the region .

Tocancipá is a center of industrial development in the north of the Sabana de Bogotá . Tocancipá has a Bavaria brewery and a Bogotá Beer Company brewery .

Tocancipá has several tourist points of interest. In the town center, the former Tocancipá train station was restored and is now a cultural center. The most important Colombian motor racing circuit , the Autódromo Internacional de Tocancipá , and the most important Colombian amusement park , the Parque Jaime Duque, opened in 1983, can be found in the vicinity . There are also scenic attractions such as rock formations ( Piedras de Sevilla and Rocas del Abra ), a waterfall in the course of the Quebrada Honda and the ecological hiking trail Camino del gone . The aviation museum Museo Aeroespacial Colombiano of the Colombian Air Force is under construction and is due to open in 2019 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Air Force.
