Cota is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia , which for metropolitan Bogotá belongs.

geography

Cota is located in Cundinamarca , in the province of Sabana Centro , about 26 km from Bogotá at an altitude of 2566  m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 14 ° C. The municipality borders in the north on Chía , in the east on the suba district in Bogotá with the Río Bogotá as a border, in the south on Funza and in the west on Tenjo .

history

Cota was founded in 1604 on the instructions of Diego Gómez de Mena. The main town has been in its current location since 1873, then known as Tres Esquinas . Before that, it was on the site of today's Hacienda Santa Cruz district . The relocation was carried out in order to benefit from the location on the economically important route between Zipaquirá and Girardot .

The main industry of Cota is agriculture . In particular, lettuce and white cabbage are grown. In addition, cows and horses are kept. Restaurants that offer typical dishes from the region also play an important role . There is a Toyota factory in Cota which produces Hino Jidōsha trucks .

Sports

Since the beginning of 2018, the Colombian second division club Fortaleza FC , which is based in the neighboring Suba in Bogotá, has been playing its home games in the Estadio Municipal in Cota.
