The Universidad de los Andes (also called Uniandes , German  University of the Andes Colombia ) in Bogotá is a private university in Colombia . It is one of the five best South American universities in a ranking of The World University Rankings in 2017 and has twelve faculties , including architecture, medicine, law, economics and social sciences.

The Universidad de los Andes was founded on November 16, 1948 by a group of young people under the direction of Mario Laserna Pinzón and is the first private higher education institution in Colombia that is secular and independent of political parties and that does not belong to any social and economic interest group. Thanks to its academic excellence, research, publications and close relationships with various organizations, the faculty is recognized as one of the best business schools in Latin America. It promotes pluralism, dialogue, debate, criticism, tolerance and respect for the ideas, beliefs and values ​​of its members.

The faculty has 703 full-time professors and 14,693 students. The campus is located in Bogotá's 17th district, La Candelaria , at the foot of the Andes , the longest mountain range in the world. The Uniandes has a variety of colonial and modern buildings. Students have access to libraries, laboratories, subject classrooms, lecture halls, computer rooms, technology applications and facilities of the integrated campus system. The Faculty of Management at the University of the Andes was established in 1972. The facility offers courses in health, business and administration, technology and the humanities.

The university's mascot is a goat named Seneca, a story that dates back to the late 1940s when a goat was walking around the campus. The students adopted the animal, named it Seneca, and it became the symbol of the university. When it died in 1966, students were not allowed to replace the goat, but the symbol is still preserved.
