La Candelaria is the 17th district ( localidad ) of the Colombian capital Bogotá . With an area of ​​184 hectares and a resident population of around 24,000 people, it is the capital's smallest district. La Candelaria is completely enclosed by the municipality of Santa Fe . Its name comes from the Catholic feast day of Mary Candlemas .

La Candelaria is the historical and cultural center of the city. Cobblestone streets, contemplative squares and brightly painted houses testify to the colonial heritage. La Candelaria is one of the best preserved historic old towns in Latin America.
