Location of Puente Aranda

Puente Aranda is the 16th district ( localidad ) of the Colombian capital Bogotá . Around 288,890 inhabitants live on an area of 1,724 hectares. The district has a dense number of industrial companies.

history

The district is located in the center of Bogotá and is named after the bridge that Francisco de Anuncibay , a Spanish oidor (judge), had built in damp and swampy ground. He came to New Granada in 1573 and wanted to force travelers to quickly cross the swampy landscape with the Río Chinúa (now Río San Francisco ) and Río San Agustín further west. The Puente Aranda existed until 1944, when the construction of the Avenida de Las Américas began.

Puente Aranda borders Teusaquillo to the north , Tunjuelito to the south, Los Mártires and Antonio Nariño to the east, and Fontibón and Kennedy to the west .

structure

Although Puente Aranda is best known for its compact industrial corridor, the locality also has important residential areas and a significant number of parks and green spaces. Cultural diversity is guaranteed by organizations that have distinguished themselves above all in music, dance, and the visual and performing arts. There are currently 22 organizations in the Corporación Casa de la Cultura de Puente Aranda that promote art, culture and heritage with a local network.
