Location of Fontibón

Fontibón is the 9th district ( localidad ) of the capital of Colombia and is located west of Bogotá's center in a flat area of ​​the Bogota savannah . Fontibón was founded in 1554, has an area of ​​3,327.2 hectares and around 345,909 inhabitants. Fontibón used to be an independent municipality. In 1954 it was integrated into the former Distrito Especial de Bogotá (today Bogotá, DC) and later fully integrated into the new capital district of Bogotá in 1977.

Immigrants from various European countries came to the Fontibón area in the middle of the 20th century and stayed. Today Fontibón with its industrial area is of particular importance for the metropolitan region of Bogotá in the further economic development of a regional free trade zone ( Zona Franca de Bogotá ).
