Teusaquillo is the 13th district ( localidad ) of the Colombian capital Bogotá . With an area of 1,421 hectares and a resident population of approx. 137,641 people, it is a spacious district and completely urbanized in the geographic center of the city with many green areas. Among the parks and green spaces, the campus of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia stands out. It includes the districts of Galerias, Teusaquillo, Parque Simón Bolívar, La Esmeralda, Ciudad Salitre and Quinta Paredes and Ciudad Salitre Oriental, which symbolize different epochs of the city.
Cultural meaning
The importance of Teusaquillos lies in its great architectural, historical, cultural wealth for the city and, at the same time, a reference point for the beginning of modern architecture in Bogotá, from where the original planning process of the city began, with the exception of the more recent, ultra-modern architecture.
The city district has a rich and varied range of apartments and also has a lot to offer culturally. Teusaquillo is extremely popular with artists and tourists because of the many restaurants and bars and is also home to countless national and international organizations. The local culture council ( Consejo Local de Cultura ) promotes Teusaquillo as the "cultural city of Bogotá" because the district has a remarkable cultural, historical, architectural, ecological and urban heritage for the city and the country. There are also some of the city's most important sports arenas, such as the Parque Metropolitano Simón Bolívar and the Estadio Nemesio Camacho .
Two important traffic axes cross the Teusaquillo district, once the Avenida El Dorado from northwest to southeast across the capital and the Avenida Norte-Quito-Sur from north to south.
