The Tren Turístico de la Sabana or Turistren is a museum railway in Bogotá , Colombia with steam operation from Sabana train station to Parque and Zipaquirá .

history

The concept of running tourist trains with steam locomotives in Bogotá dates back to 1982. When the National Railroad Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Colombia ceased train services in 1990, former railway workers began to renovate a steam locomotive and some passenger cars for a museum railway. In 1992 the private company Turistren Ltda was founded by four friends who signed a contract with the National Railways to use their tracks for tourist trains. In 1993 the first train journeys with steam locomotives under the name Tren Turístico de la Sabana were carried out.

Route

The track having a track width of 914 mm (3  feet ) runs on the median strip of the road Carrera 9 with numerous crossings at the intersections. It is considered to use the railway line again for commuter traffic.
