Suba is the 11th district ( localidad ) of the Colombian capital Bogotá . With an area of 10,056 hectares and a resident population of around 1.2 million people (2015) in the north-west of the city, it is the fourth largest urban district of Bogotá and also a large, green district. However, the urbanization of recent years has pushed back many green spaces.
In the socio-economic area, Suba has a very large and modern residential area, which is also interspersed with activities from various industries, such as trade and services in the southern part. Suba is the most populous district of Bogotá with over a million inhabitants, a district with the largest population of the middle and upper classes, especially in the east of Suba, who seek security.
Suba borders the municipality of Chía to the north ; in the south at Engativá ; to the east to Usaquén and to the west to the municipality of Cota in Cundinamarca . Suba is connected to the city center via the Autopista Norte .
Directly from the old pre-Columbian Chibcha culture, the word Suba means "flower of the sun" from Uba = fruit or flower, Sua = sun.
