Location of Bosa

Bosa is the 7th district ( localidad ) in the southwestern tip of the Colombian capital Bogotá . With an area of 2,393 hectares, which corresponds to 2.87 percent of the area of Bogotá, it is a medium-sized urban district in which 508,828 people lived at the end of 2016.

history

Bosa is considered to be the second largest Chibcha population after Bacatá (Bogotá), an area ruled by the Kaziken Techotiva. The former city is located on the site of a former indigenous village and got its name from the Chibcha words “Fenced Guard” and “Defend the Grain”. It can also be understood as the “second day of the week”.

After the arrival of the Spaniards in Bosa in 1538, the famous conquistadors summit with Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada and Nikolaus Federmann , who came from Venezuela , and with Sebastián de Belalcázar , who came from Peru , is said to end with a peace treaty. This famous meeting is still attested today with the monument opposite the "Iglesia San Bernardino de Bosa", which was built in 1618 and recently selected as a national monument. In the San Bernardino neighborhood of Bosa there are still direct descendants of the groups that originally inhabited this area; they still have the indigenous surnames Neuta, Chiguasuque, Tunjo, Orobajo, Buenhombre and Fitata.

statistics

Bosa ranks fourth in the criminal statistics of crimes with a social impact in the Bogotá metropolitan area. This was shown by a study from 2015 by the Dirección de Planeación Proyectos Estratégicos - Subdirección Análisis Sectorial, Poblacional y Local .
