Philipsthal (also Philippsthal written Danish : Filipsdal or Philipsdal ) is a former castle in the village of Steinberg Church in Schleswig-Holstein , now called Farm and recycling used. It is one of the community's cultural monuments .

history

In 1618 Duke Hans the Younger bought the noble estate Nübel ( Lage ), about four kilometers away , with which he also acquired an associated area, which was described as "wilderness on the beach". The area acquired with Gut Nübel probably also included Pinniksand, as the area around Philipsthal was originally called. In the acquired area at the entrance to the outer fjord , the Duke of Glücksburg wanted to build a competing port and trading center to Flensburg . On the opposite side of the fjord, the duke also had properties that could have been useful for the project. On the nearby shore of the Baltic Sea , he settled some workers who were supposed to build the port, which resulted in the neighboring Neukirchen . After the duke died in 1622, his heirs evidently did not pursue the plans any further.

In 1712, Duke Ernst Phillipp from Glücksburg built the Philipsthal Meierhof on the site of two abandoned piles of pinnacles . A neighboring village to the west called Kastrup had already been dissolved in the 17th century. The neighboring Meierhof Friedrichstal , which also belonged to Gut Nübel, was then set up there almost two kilometers away . Philipsthal later served as a long-term lease on the Nübel estate. In contrast to the neighboring Friedrichstal, it was not parceled out at the end of the 18th century.

In the middle of the 19th century, the castle moats were partially filled in by Hof Philipsthal. It was during this time that the courtyard was evidently given its current appearance. Several brick buildings were grouped around the rectangular courtyard , creating a three-sided courtyard . A neo-Gothic manor house for residential purposes was built at the top of the courtyard in 1856 . The courtyard's other building stock includes: to the side the acceptance or administrator's house, a residential building with an economic section and an eastern and western yellow stone barn facing the street. To the west and east of the courtyard, wide remains of the castle moat have been preserved. Incidentally, the neighboring large stone grave in Philippstal , 300 meters away, and other similar old graves in the Philipsthal area were not preserved. In the 1920s, the farm owned 116 hectares of land  . Philipsthal originally belonged to the rural community of Roikier. In 1970 Philipsthal, like the other parts of Roiker, became part of the Quern community . In 2013, the independent Quern community was finally incorporated into the Steinbergkirche community.
