The former hunting lodge

Friedrichstal ( Danish : Frederiksdal ) is a small village in the municipality of Steinbergkirche in Schleswig-Holstein , which was named after the Friedrichstal hunting lodge of the dukes of Glücksburg , which is located there and now serves as a restaurant .

background

In 1618, Duke Hans the Younger , third son of King Christian III, bought it. from Denmark , the noble manor Nübel ( Lage ) , three kilometers away, to which Kastrup also belonged, as Friedrichstal was originally called. With Gut Nübel, Duke Hans the Younger von Glücksburg acquired an area that was described as "wilderness on the beach". There, at the entrance to the outer fjord , he wanted to build a trading center with an associated port and compete with Flensburg. The Duke also owned properties on the other side of the development that would probably have been useful in this project. To the north of Friedrichstal, directly on the Baltic Sea , the duke settled some workers who were supposed to build the port, which resulted in the neighboring Neukirchen . But the duke died four years later. His heirs apparently did not pursue his plans any further. The mentioned village of Kastrup (also spelled Castrup) was subsequently even dissolved. In 1628 Duke Phillipp von Glücksburg (the son of Hans the Younger) built the mansion "Sophienhof" where Kastrup was , which apparently served as the Meierhof of the Nübel estate. He chose the name of the court in honor of his wife, Duchess Sophie Hedwig. The castle moat, which is still three-quarters of the way through which a drawbridge led, already belonged to the manor house. In 1712, the Philipsthal Meierhof was built to the east, almost two kilometers from Friedrichstal .

Duke Friedrich the Elder had the old mansion "Sophienhof" torn down in 1750 and had a new, larger manor house built on the trowel vaults, which he named Friedrichtal. With its name, Friedrichstal is reminiscent of its former owner, Duke Friedrich zu Glücksburg. A brass plate on the door knocker, designed as a lion, still reminds of the construction with the slogan: “In 1750 I was built by Hertzog Friderich Friderichs Dahl, my name is God blessing and governor of all who hold quarters here.” The dukes of Glücksburg used this to hunt adjacent forest area Horstkoppel ( location ). As the hunts, gathering and eating of the hunt followed in the wide hall, the new property was subsequently also named "Friedrichstal Hunting Lodge". In 1789 the Meierhof was parceled out. 14 Landstellen were formed from Friedrichstal, which resulted in today's village Friedrichstal, which at that time was often still called Kastrup, the name of the former village. The name Kastrup remained in village usage until the middle of the 20th century. The Stammhof, the actual Friedrichstal, came into the possession of the Jürgensen family, in whose family the manor house is to this day. In the 19th century, the Friedrichstal hunting lodge was expanded and converted. Until 1850 there was also a watermill at the hunting lodge, which was operated by the dammed Mühlenbach, which still flows through the moat surrounding the hunting lodge. The southern moat was probably filled in when a new farm building was being built. In the southern part of the village of Friedrichstals there was also a windmill until 1947. During the First World War and the Second World War , people from the estate and the small village of Friedrichstal also died. Five people from Friedrichstal are known who fell and were missing.

The village of Friedrichstal originally belonged to the rural community of Roikier. In 1970 Friedrichstal became a district of Quern . Friedrichstal has been part of the Steinberg Church community since 2013. Today there are several houses and courtyards on the main Friedrichstal road. The buses of line 1611 Sterup- Steinbergkirche and line 1601 Flensburg-Neukirchen stop there . A side path called Friedrichstal also leads along the Horstkoppel state forest to the nearby Baltic Sea near Neukirchen.

The actual Gut Friedrichstal today bears the address Friedrichstal 7. In 1999 the Friedrichstal estate was again extensively renovated. The cellar vaults mentioned have been preserved to this day. At the same time as the renovation, the Jürgensen family set up a farm café and restaurant in the Friedrichstal hunting lodge. However, the agricultural management of the property remained. The restaurant is open daily from lunchtime from January to October and offers hot dishes and cakes. The outdoor area has 60 seats and the indoor area 90 seats, so that the Jagdschloss Friedrichstal restaurant can now also be used for meetings and the old vaulted cellar from 1628 can also be visited when visiting a restaurant.
