Location of Los Martires

Los Mártires is the 14th district ( localidad ) of the Colombian capital Bogotá . With an area of 655 hectares and a resident population of approx. 96,000 people, it is a medium-sized urban district of the capital. Named in honor of those martyrs who lost their lives fighting for independence from Spain in this central area of the city . Los Mártires borders Teusaquillo to the north , Antonio Nariño to the south , Santa Fe to the east and Puente Aranda to the west .

The problematic district of El Bronx (drugs and prostitution) is located in the middle of Los Mártires. It is advisable not to go around there at night. The influx of around 1 million people who work there during the day and go about their "business" is reflected in a high crime rate. This worries the city administration and there are constant raids . In May 2016, a force of over 2,500 men from the Policía Nacional intervened together with the military against organized crime in this sector. As a result, many buildings were and will be demolished in an alternative urban renewal structure plan.

Important institutions and sights in the city district:

  • Estación de La Sabana (train connection Bogotá - Zipaquirá )
  • Shopping centers: Centro Comercial Plaza España, Centro Comercial Puerto Rico, Calima Centro Comercial
  • Hospital de San José
  • Colegio Nuestra Señora de la Presentación
  • Centro Nacional de Artes Graficas
  • Fiscalía General de la Nación
  • Policía Metropolitana de Bogotá
