Rafael Uribe Uribe is the 18th district ( localidad ) of the Colombian capital city of Bogotá . The name of the district was named in honor of the murdered liberal general and politician Rafael Uribe Uribe . Uribe Uribe was the founder of the Universidad Libre and known for his political ideas in favor of the establishment of guild socialism and the trade unions in Colombia; also because of his diplomatic work and support of the Colombian coffee farmers in the fight against diseases such as coffee rust .
history
The history of the Rafael Uribe Uribe locality lies essentially in the colonial and republican era up to the 20th century , with the three great haciendas : Llano de Mesa , La Fiscala and Los Molinos de Chiguaza ; the latter was one of the largest territories in the south.
From here the development of the brick industry in Colombia began. This history was manifested in 1972 in a documentary by the two documentary filmmakers Marta Rodríguez and Jorge Silva with the title "Chircales" (brickworkers).
“Using the example of a Colombian family of brickworkers who are vegetating on the verge of subsistence, the film shows the socially determined production conditions of a third world country from a committed subjective point of view. The film, deliberately designed to be simple and oriented towards specific living conditions, is a passionate call for changes in social conditions by revolutionary means. "
The Cárcel Nacional Picota prison in the district also became famous .
structure
The municipality is one with the youngest population in Bogotá. Rafael Uribe Uribe consists mainly of residential areas and extensive retail. The district no longer has any land available for territorial expansion and it also has no rural structures. Rafael Uribe Uribe is the sixth smallest area of all Bogotá's municipal districts.
It is located in the southeast part of the city, bounded to the east by San Cristóbal , Tunjuelito in the west, Antonio Nariño in the north and in the south with Usme . The municipality has an area of 1,310 hectares with a population of approximately 423,000 people.
