Madrid is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia , which for metropolitan Bogotá belongs.

geography

Madrid is located in Cundinamarca , in the province of Sabana Occidental , about 21 km from Bogotá at an altitude of 2554  m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 14 ° C. The municipality borders in the north on Facatativá , El Rosal and Subachoque , in the east on Tenjo , Funza and Mosquera , in the south on Mosquera and Bojacá and in the west on Bojacá and Facatativá.

history

Before the arrival of the Spaniards, an indigenous people lived in what is now Madrid . The place itself was probably founded between 1559 and 1563, initially under the name Sagasuca . Later he got the name Serrezuela . In 1875 it was named after the politician, writer and teacher Pedro Fernández Madrid , who died there.
