Tabio is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia , which for metropolitan Bogotá belongs.

geography

Tabio is located in Cundinamarca in the province of Sabana Centro , about 45 km from Bogotá at 2569 meters above sea level and has an average annual temperature of 14 ° C. Tabio is located on a plateau in the Andes . The municipality borders Zipaquirá in the north, Cajicá in the east, Tenjo in the south and Subachoque in the west .

history

At the beginning of the conquest, the area of today's Tabio community was inhabited by the Chibcha indigenous people . The Spaniards subsequently exploited the indigenous peoples with the encomienda system . The settlement itself was officially founded in 1603. Tabio received the status of a municipality in 1761.

economy

The main industry in Tabio is agriculture . In particular, cut flowers , but also potatoes , corn and peas are grown. There is also cattle and milk production and gravel and sand are extracted.
