Silvania is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia .

geography

Silvania is located in the southwest of Cundinamarca in the Sumapaz province at an altitude of 1470 meters. The Río Chocho flows through the municipality . Adjacent to the church in the north of Granada , in the east Sibaté , south Fusagasuga and Tibacuy and west Viota .

population

The municipality of Silvania has 22,076 inhabitants, of which 6355 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

The indigenous people of the Sutagaos lived in the area of today's Silvania in pre-Columbian times . From 1608 an estate was built, the Hacienda El Chocho . The place was founded in 1935 with the laying out of the main streets and the main square and the construction of six houses. Just one year later, Silvania received the status of a municipality.

economy

The main industries in Silvania are agriculture (especially coffee , blackberries and tree tomatoes are grown) and animal husbandry .

traffic

Silvania is located on the important road between Bogotá and Fusagasugá , 44 km away , which also connects Bogotá with Girardot , Ibagué and Cali .
