Fusagasuga is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia .

geography

Fusagasugá is located in Cundinamarca at an altitude of about 1728 meters 59 km southwest of Bogotá in the province of Sumapaz . Fusagasugá borders in the north on Silvania and Sibaté , in the south on Arbeláez and Icononzo in Tolima , in the east on Pasca and Sibaté and in the west on Silvania and Tibacuy . The city is located between the Cuja and Chocho rivers and the Quininí and Fusacatán hills.

The municipality of Fusagasugá has 145,039 inhabitants, of which 117,019 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

The area was inhabited by the indigenous people of the Sutagaos even before the arrival of the Spaniards . Fusagasugá was officially founded by the Spanish on May 7, 1776 by Ignacio Pérez de la Cadena.

Towards the end of the Second World War , many Germans living in Colombia were interned in Fusagasugá, among others, from 1944 to 1945. The aim of this measure was to control the activities of the Germans in order to ensure the security of the country. In Fusagasugá, the victims were interned in a hotel provided by the Spanish owner. The cost of the stay was deducted from the internees' frozen bank accounts. Living conditions were generally good, although the allegations against the internees were not always justified.

Sports

In Fusagasugá, the football club Expreso Rojo was based from 2007 to 2008 and at the beginning of 2011, which played in the Colombian second division . However, the club moved to Zipaquirá in 2009 and to Soacha in 2011 . Expreso Rojo played its home games at the Estadio Fernando Mazuera.
