Sibaté is a municipality ( municipio ) belonging to the metropolitan area of ​​Bogotá in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia .

Sibaté is located in Cundinamarca , in the Soacha province , about 27 km from Bogotá at an altitude of 2700  m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 14 ° C. history

The name Sibaté was first mentioned in 1883 for a finca . The region gained importance with the construction of the railway line until 1895. The urbanization process of today's town center began in 1920. The construction of the hydroelectric power station and the Embalse del Muña reservoir were important for the region . Sibaté received the status of a municipality in 1967.
