Albano

Albano is a former industrial area in the north of central Stockholm , part of the Royal National City Park since 1994 .

Like many rural areas around Brunnsviken , near Haga Castle , Albano was after the trip to Italy 1783–1784 by Gustav III. named by Sweden after the Italian model, in this case Albano Laziale . The area north of today's Roslagstull and the Kräftriket inn were sung about by Carl Michael Bellman in Fredmans epistlar (No. 80). Today , Kräftriket refers to the beach area between Albano and Brunnsviken.

Albano developed into an industrial area in the north of what was then Stockholm at the end of the 19th century. The Värtabanan from Karlberg to Värtahamnen , built in 1882, and the Roslagsbanan lead through Albano. Until 1969 there was also a stopping and loading point in Albano. However, passenger traffic was shut down as early as 1913.

After the establishment of the Royal National City Park in 1994, the majority of industrial buildings are now torn away or vacant. With the opening of the AlbaNova University Center in 2001, Albano became a university campus and today, as Vetenskapsstaden, it is part of the campus of Stockholm University and the Kungliga tekniska Högskolan .
