Karlbergs station was a through station in the Swedish capital Stockholm in the Vasastaden district . In the winter of 2016, 15,900 commuters boarded here on a normal working day. This made it the third largest commuting station in terms of passenger volume .
history
The former first train station opened on November 3, 1882. The station described here was opened in 1932 and has two central platforms and four tracks. The station is named after the nearby Karlberg Castle . It was possible to change to the Gröna linjen of the Tunnelbana at the St. Eriksplan station about 500 m away .
Since the Citybanan tunnel went into operation on July 10, 2017, all Pendeltåg trains have been routed underground via the Odenplan station. Since no other trains stop at Karlbergs station for the time being, it was closed. Initially there were plans to use the station permanently for certain regional trains. Due to little interest on the part of the railway companies, these were discarded. Instead, the station will initially exist as a reserve station in the next few years so that trains can be turned around in the event of a malfunction or capacity problems. The question in connection with the national transport plan will be finally clarified in 2018. On November 14, 2017, the station was reopened in the afternoon because the Citybanan could not be used due to a signal disruption and instead the trains had to be diverted via the old route, i.e. via Centralen and Karlberg.
