Odenplan is an underground station on the Stockholm Metro . It is located in the Vasastaden district . The station is served by the Gröna linjen of the Stockholm subway system . The central location in the city center makes the station one of the most frequented stations on the underground network. On a normal working day, 26,600 commuters get on here. In addition, there are 14,300 passengers on the many bus routes that stop or turn around at Odenplan.
The station went into operation on October 26, 1952 when the Hötorget - Vällingby metro section was inaugurated. The platform is about nine meters below ground. The station is located between the stations Rådmansgatan and St. Eriksplan . It is around two kilometers to Stockholm Central Station .
In 2009 a staircase was expanded into a staircase piano that can be played with the feet.
Pendeltåg
The previous operation in July 2017 Citybanantunnel which extends below the center Stockholm, has an underground breakpoint at Odenplan on which the Pendeltågzüge direction Stockholm Central or Märsta / Uppsala / Bålsta hold. The first stage of the station under Vasastan consists of a central platform with two tracks. A second platform can be expanded to four tracks at a later date. Some shops have also been integrated into the station. In terms of passenger numbers, the station is to become the second largest in Sweden and replace the previous Karlberg station . Platform screen doors made of glass will separate passengers from the tracks, which will only open when the trains are stationary.
Expansion plans
There are a number of expansion plans for the coupling of further rail-bound local transport to the Odenplan.
Yellow line
The so-called yellow line was initially a working name for an underground line from Älvsjö to Danderyds sjukhus via Fridhemplan and Odenplan. This idea is no longer pursued. Instead, it was decided to branch off the green line to the north to Arenastaden (Solna). Two intermediate stops in Hagastaden and Hagalund are planned. In a campaign with maximum public participation, a competition was launched, with which the citizens could decide on the color of the branch line. The winner was the color yellow. The line should not even have its own platforms on Odenplan, but take over parts of the traffic to Farsta Strand and Skarpnäck. This is the first time in the history of the Stockholm subway that a stretch of lines of different colors will be used. Construction should start in 2018.
Tram instead of main bus line 4
There are repeated discussions about replacing the heavily frequented bus line 4 with a tram. However, no specific decisions have yet been taken in this direction.
Extension of the Roslagsbanan via Odenplan
The plans to stop the Roslagsbanan at Stockholm's Östra from ending at Stockholm's Östra are somewhat more specific, but instead to run from the Universitetet stop in a tunnel via Odenplan to T-Centralen. But construction will not start before 2026.
