The district has about 6700 inhabitants and is an example of modernist-functionalist architecture and urban development in Sweden . Its center, Vällingby Centrum , was the first so-called ABC city in Sweden and achieved great international recognition because of its initially successful implementation. ABC stands for the Swedish Arbete, Bostad och Centrum , work, living and center, and means that people work, live and have access to the most important social and cultural services within small boundaries.

The center of Vällingby was inaugurated in 1954 and is currently (2007) undergoing extensive expansion. Vällingby is connected to central Stockholm by the underground ( Vällingby underground station ).

Hässelby Gård

Hässelby Castle ("Hässelby Slott", 2013)

The name of the district comes from an estate that has existed since the 12th century. In the 1650s, Carl Bonde had a castle built on the site. Today the building houses a cultural center.

Most of the houses in the district were built between 1953 and 1955. Since 1956, Hässelby Gård has been connected to the city center by the Stockholm subway.

Hässelby Beach

The district borders on Lake Mälaren and was also built with houses around 1950. This is where a line from the Stockholm subway ends.

Hässelby Villastad

The area represents the westernmost part of the Swedish capital. The construction of the villas located here began in 1910. Initially, Hässelby Villastad belonged to the rural community (landskommun) Spånga (part of today's Stockholm district Spånga-Tensta ) until it became an independent municipality on January 1, 1926 with the status of a minority town (köping) . On January 1, 1949, Hässelby Villastads köping went up in the city of Stockholm. In the 1970s, a large number of terraced houses were built in the district.

Grimsta

In Grimsta there were several farms that were connected to Hässelby Castle until around 1950. Due to the burial mounds and stone setting here, it is known that the area was settled at an early stage. In 1949 the district was included in the urban area of Stockholm. Shortly afterwards, the planned construction of the apartment buildings that can be found here today began.

Other districts are Kälvesta, Nälsta, Råcksta and Vinsta.
