Sara Wedlund

Sara Wedlund ( Sara Christina Wedlund ; born December 27, 1975 in Hässelby-Vällingby ) is a former Swedish long-distance runner .

In 1995 she set three national records over 5000 m , most recently ninth at the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg with 15: 08.36 min, and won silver at the European Cross Country Championships in Alnwick .

The following year she became national indoor champion over 1500 m and 3000 m and won silver over 3000 m at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Stockholm with her third national record of 8: 50.32 min. Then she became Swedish champion in cross-country and over 5000 m. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta she was eleventh over 5000 m, and at the European Cross Country Championships in Charleroi , she won gold after the first-placed Romanian Iulia Negură was disqualified for doping .

A series of injuries and the effects of an anorexia that had not been completely overcome , for which she had already been hospitalized as a teenager, subsequently prevented her from returning permanently to competition.
