Sollentuna is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Stockholm County and the historic province of Uppland .
geography
The landscape of Sollentuna is characterized by two large bodies of water: on the one hand the lake Norrviken and on the other the Baltic Sea bay Edsviken , which protrudes far into the country.
The localities of the municipality have now grown together to form a single residential area with an urban character. In this settlement today districts (or city districts) are distinguished. Due to this geographical situation, Sollentuna does not have a real main town, or it can be viewed as a main town as a whole. The community center is located in the Tureberg district, which also has the most residents.
There are the following districts:

Five of these districts are located at railway stops where the suburban train stops. These are from south to north: Helenelund, Tureberg (the station is called Sollentuna), Häggvik, Norrviken and Rotebro. Viby is an extension of Norrviken and the other districts of Edsberg and Sjöberg are on the road to Danderyd . Another important road in the municipality is the road from Kallhäll to Rotebro and the motorway ( E4 ), which runs parallel to the railway line.
history
The community goes back to a parish ( socks ) , which was first mentioned in 1287 as de Solendatunum . The oldest parts of the church, which still exists today, date from the end of the 12th century. In 1863 the rural community of Sollentuna landskommun was established on the territory of Sollentuna socken .
Further development was decisively influenced by the construction of the railway line from Stockholm to Uppsala ( Norra stambanan ) by the municipality in the 1870s. In 1929 the more densely built-up part received the urban administrative status of a municipalsamhälle, and in 1944 the municipality was given the status of a minor town (köping) .
With the municipality reform of 1971 Sollentuna köping was transformed into one of the (today) 290 municipalities ( kommun ) in Sweden. In 1955, smaller parts of the minority community were transferred to the neighboring rural community to the west, today the municipality of Järfälla , while in 1980 the area was swapped between Sollentuna kommun and Stockholms kommun : the district of Hansta (now part of Rinkeby-Kista ) went to Stockholm, Silverdal came to Sollentuna.
