Patric Gösta Hörnqvist (born January 1, 1987 in Sollentuna ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League since June 2014 . With the team, the right winger won the Stanley Cup in the 2016 and 2017 playoffs . With the Swedish national team , he also won the gold medal at the 2018 World Cup .
Career
Patric Hörnqvist was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the seventh round as a total of 230th player by the Nashville Predators . He then played for Djurgårdens IF in his Swedish homeland for three years . In these three seasons he got 72 scorer points in 154 games, including 46 goals.
In the summer of 2008, the winger was added to the Predators' NHL squad. He scored his first goal in the National Hockey League on October 15, 2008 against the Dallas Stars . After a short time, the Swede - due to mixed performance - was ordered into the squad of Nashville's farm team , the Milwaukee Admirals from the American Hockey League . In the 2009/10 season he made his breakthrough in Nashville, when Hörnqvist was on the ice in 80 NHL regular season games and scored 51 points. So he was together with Steve Sullivan the best scorer of the Predators.
For the duration of the NHL lockout in the 2012/13 season, the striker was signed by the Swiss club HC Red Ice in October 2012 .
In June 2014 he moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 2016 playoffs . In 2017 he managed to defend his title with the team, in the sixth game of the playoff final against the Nashville Predators he scored the decisive goal to win the trophy in the 59th minute. In February 2018, Hörnqvist signed a new contract in Pittsburgh that is expected to earn him an average annual salary of $ 5.3 million over the next five seasons.
