Career
The 1.85 m tall defender first went through the junior development program of the US ice hockey association USA Hockey . During his college years, Johnson was on the team at the University of Michigan in the CCHA , a league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During this time he set three new school season records with 149 penalty minutes, 32 points and 16 goals as a defender, and in 2007 he was named "CCHA Offensive Defenseman of the Year". In the 2005 NHL Entry Draft , the left-handed shooter was finally selected as third in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes . In September 2006, the Hurricanes transferred the rights to Johnson together with defender Oleg Twerdowski in exchange for Tim Gleason and Éric Bélanger to the Los Angeles Kings , with whom Jack Johnson signed a contract in March 2007. Against the Vancouver Canucks , the defender finally completed his first NHL game on September 29, he scored his first scorer point on October 10, the first NHL goal followed a short time later - again against the Vancouver Canucks.
In January 2011, Johnson extended his contract in Los Angeles for a further seven years until the end of the 2017/18 season. On February 23, 2012 the Kings transferred him to the Columbus Blue Jackets together with a first-round suffrage in the NHL Entry Draft 2012 or NHL Entry Draft 2013 , in return Jeff Carter moved to the Los Angeles Kings.
After more than six years in Columbus, Johnson did not get a further contract from the Blue Jackets after the 2017/18 season, so he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins in July 2018 as part of a five-year contract .
