Éric Bélanger (born December 16, 1977 in Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 861 games for the Los Angeles Kings , Carolina Hurricanes , Atlanta Thrashers , Minnesota Wild , Washington Capitals during his active career between 1994 and 2013 , Phoenix Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League on the position of the center .
Career
Éric Bélanger began his career as a hockey player in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , in which he was active from 1994 to 1997 for the Harfangs de Beauport and Océanic de Rimouski . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1996 in the fourth round as a total of 96 players by the Los Angeles Kings .
After three seasons in the American Hockey League with the Fredericton Canadiens , Springfield Falcons and the Lowell Lock Monsters , the attacker made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Kings in the 2000/01 season . There he ran with the exception of the lockout in the NHL season 2004/05 , in which he was under contract with HC Bozen in the Italian Serie A1 , in the following six seasons in the NHL. The 2006/07 season began Bélanger with the Carolina Hurricanes , before he was signed on February 9, 2007 by the Nashville Predators . This in turn gave the Canadian to the Atlanta Thrashers on the following day , where he ended the season.
Before the 2007/08 season , the left-shot was signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Wild , for which he played until March 2010. He joined the Phoenix Coyotes in September 2010 through the Washington Capitals . On July 1, 2011, Bélanger signed a three-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers . For the 2013/14 season , the Canadian moved to Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg in the Continental Hockey League after the Edmonton Oilers had paid off his contract ( buy out ). At the end of September 2013, Bélanger ended his career at the age of 36 after asking those responsible in Yekaterinburg to terminate his contract early.
