Timothy "Tim" Gleason (born January 29, 1983 in Clawson , Michigan ) is a retired American ice hockey player . The defender played over 750 games in the National Hockey League , the majority of them for the Carolina Hurricanes . With the national team of the United States , he won the silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics .
Career
The 1.83 m tall defender began his career with the Windsor Spitfires in the Canadian Junior League OHL , before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft as 23rd in the first round by the Ottawa Senators .
Before the left shooter, however, could play an NHL game for the Senators, he was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings on March 11, 2003 in exchange for Bryan Smolinski . For the Kings, Gleason played his first games in the highest North American professional league in the 2003/04 season , but he was also repeatedly used in the LA farm team in the American Hockey League , the Manchester Monarchs . The American also played for the Monarchs during the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season . On September 29, 2006, the Kings transferred Tim Gleason together with Éric Bélanger in exchange for Oleg Twerdowski and Jack Johnson to the Carolina Hurricanes , for which the defender in the NHL was on the ice. On January 1, 2014, he was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for John-Michael Liles and Dennis Robertson . Gleason only stayed there for half a year before rejoining the Hurricanes in July 2014.
After almost six months in Carolina, the Hurricanes handed him over to the Washington Capitals in February 2015 and in return received Jack Hillen and a four-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft . Gleason ended the season in Washington, but received no additional contract. After working on a comeback with the Carolina Hurricanes in November 2015, Gleason moved to the Hurricanes' management and coaching team after his trial contract ended, thus ending his active career and working as a kind of mentor in Carolina from now on.
